Ted Jolda

Working in wood, metal, fabric, and glass, Ted Jolda has been a creative individual all his life.

He has attended classes at Simon Fraser University, Western Washington University, and Sheridan College School of Craft and Design.

Currently he is one of Canada's best known glass artists and has been called the nation's preeminent ornament maker. Working primarily in glass since 1985, Ted has received international recognition for his work. As well as being in the collections of the royal houses of the Netherlands and England, his work is also in the collections of the Canadian Craft Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass. His work has been exhibited internationally in numerous group shows representing the finest of contemporary Canadian Art.

Ted was chosen to create the goblets for the formal table of the Lieutenant Governer of British Columbia and later was asked to expand the set to accommodate the eighteen heads of state attending the 1999 APEC conference in Vancouver. His work has been presented to presidents, prime ministers and heads of state around the world.

Ted co-owned Andrighetti Glassworks in Vancouver (1988-1993) with Joanne Andrighetti. After the death of a close friend, he sold his share of the studio to Joanne and took off on a year long round-the-world tour. Working with artists in Australia and Europe, Ted saw and learned a great deal about his art and himself.

After marrying his high school sweetheart, Allison, Ted settled down on Vancouver Island. Raising a family and working from his home based studio, Ted continues to work and create new glassware and sculptures. Still collaborating with other renowned artists such as Rafael Navarro Leiton, Carolyn Lutz, and Robert Studer, Ted renews his passion for the arts on a daily basis.

Ted is teaching again after many years, a hugely successful weeklong workshop at Red Deer College last June entitled "Turning Trick with Ted" was featured in Red Deers paper The Advocate and on Ch television. Ted has been asked to teach again at Red Deer College in 2008.

Not just work drives Ted, a local celebrity due to his brush with Oprah, Ted often is asked to MC or host local events.
