Giselle Denis – Biography

After a few years of residing in the city of Edmonton, my family moved to the country where I am surrounded by the peace and quiet of nature in my own backyard. I am inspired by the great outdoors, the natural landscape and the beauty of its four seasons.

Most of my work is created in my studio, and in the summer months, I set up en plein air. In contrast to the quietness of painting alone, I also enjoy engaging people in the process of my work by painting in public spaces, such as at the Hotel Fairmont Macdonald, the Alberta Art Gallery and the downtown farmers market, answering questions about where I get my inspiration, what paints I use and talking about my creative process.

Corporate and private collectors of my work include Atco Electric and Rogers Wireless Head Offices, Manulife Place and the Wildflower Grill. I’ve had the honour of being nominated for both the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award for Arts and Culture as well as the Emerging Artist award at the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts. Painting live for donation has helped to raise over $70,000 in 2014 for a number of deserving organizations and charities, such as the YWCA, Little Warriors, Edmonton Dream Centre, WIN House and the Lurana Shelter. My goal is to raise $1 Million for charity within the next 10 years. Here is the link to my story on CTV Edmonton with Erin Isfeld:

Giselle Denis Art Statement

I paint scenes of nature using bright, bold colour and texture. My art is about nature as a place of refuge. A pathway you feel drawn to walk down.  A field of flowers you want to lie down in. A landscape you want to live in. My goal is to make you feel joy and a sense of peace when you look at my work.
