ARTIST STATEMENT

For years I accepted landscape as having a perscrbed look. I live in a country with a strong landscape genre. But I refuse to trade totally in the currency of this established style.

A few years ago imaps.google.com gave us a radical new view of our familiar space. Similarly the look of my paintings pushed to flatten the planes and create shape associations.Reinventing the thought of landscape has changed the content of my works, forcing a reexamination of spatial relationships. The painting growth is dependent upon the tension suggested by these landforms.

Painting for me is like magic, what you see is not what you see at first take. The closer you get to the surface the more the picture fades away and the more the artwork is about paint and texture. Within the marks you can re engage with your subject, recreate a snapshot in time, make a historical observation or record the glimpse of a current dream.
