Michael Trimpol
Michael Trimpol, born in Ontario, Canada, is a full-time glass artist who specializes in individually blown paperweights, perfume bottles, and vessels. Michael graduated from Concordia University and the Sheridan College School of Crafts and Design in 1985. Professionally committed to the fine art of glass blowing, Michael has perfected his technique over many years.
Handmade glass requires a scientific understanding of the material, and patience to constantly monitor the quality of this nearly living substance. The highest quality glass matches the brilliant clarity of fine crystal. Michael’s glass objects take advantage of the natural characteristics of hand-blown glass, especially its clarity and dynamic fluidity. A hallmark of Michael’s work is that it embodies the excitement and drama of its creation in the molten state. The optics and the distortions they create expose the nature of this singular material. Meticulous work guarantees that an artistic object can also be an ideal functional one. The harmonious proportions of a vase are completed by a base that is perfectly polished to avoid scratching table surfaces. The stoppers of perfume bottles are painstakingly ground to form an air seal with the bottle. After investing the many hours of labour to make a fine glass object, Michael proudly signs each one with a diamond nib.
