Matthew Watson

Born and raised in Alberta and coming from a long family history of trade workers, I came into the trades soon after high school.

Becoming a welder in 2011, I learned how work with different kinds of metals and eventually became proficient in the art of blacksmithing.

Having both Father (welder / blacksmith) and Great Grandfather who were professional blacksmiths by trade, it became easy to (exposure to craft) understand how to work and forge the metal and soon became interested in creating different styles of metal art from heating the metal, twisting, and hammering into shape ranging from hand rails, roses, fantasy knifes, armour.

Nature being the primary inspiration for blacksmithing and welding art focuses on the details of the smallest things.

For smaller artworks – I’ve concentrated on utilizing stainless steel, which requires minimal heating in order not to lose its lustre. As a result, a lot of hand hammering and grinding is used to create unique hand-made functional crafted artworks.
